The Danger of High Pressure

Why We Don't Pressure Clean Concrete Tile Roofs
Concrete tiled roofs can respond very differently to cleaning compared with hard ground surfaces. While high-pressure cleaning can produce an immediate and dramatic visual result, we believe the long-term condition of the roof should be given equal consideration.
Concrete tiles are porous by nature and can become more weathered as they age. High-pressure cleaning can remove surface contamination, but it can also place unnecessary mechanical stress on the tile surface, potentially affecting the weathered outer layer and any existing protective coatings.
Pressure can also force water into areas that aren't intended to receive it, including tile overlaps, junctions and existing imperfections. On an older roof, these considerations become even more important.
For this reason, Ultrasoft does not pressure clean concrete tiled roofs.
Instead, where appropriate, we use a controlled chemical treatment designed to target the organic growth itself. Once the growth has been destroyed, natural weathering from rain and wind can gradually remove the remaining material from the surface.
This approach may not produce the same instant transformation as aggressive pressure cleaning, but we believe a roof should be cleaned with consideration for what happens after the clean as well as what it looks like on the day.
Our philosophy is simple: remove the organic growth without unnecessarily removing the roof surface with it.
That's why Ultrasoft focuses on responsible chemistry, controlled application and surface-specific cleaning methods rather than treating every roof as a pressure-cleaning job.
High-pressure cleaning has stripped the coloured protective coating from this tile, leaving it porous and open to further growth. You can see the difference between replacement tiles and original ones. This porous surface now exposes the ceiling cavity to moisture, potential mould growth, and related health risks.

Both sections of the roof are clean. The lower section was pressure cleaned, while the upper section was cleaned using the Ultrasoft process.
